How to Enable and Manage Player-Entered Scores During Events

Managing scores efficiently during tournaments is crucial for smooth event operations. One powerful feature you can enable is allowing players to enter their own scores directly, reducing manual input and speeding up the process. This help document will guide you through setting up and managing player-entered scores using the live console, handling disputes, and ensuring your tournament runs seamlessly.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Step 1: Enable Player Score Entry in Your Event Settings

To start, navigate to your event settings. At the bottom of the event configuration page, you’ll find an option labeled "Players can enter scores." Enable this feature and set the confirmation timeout — this is how long players have to confirm their score before it is auto-confirmed by the system.

Once enabled, additional options will appear on your live console to help you manage scores and disputes effectively.

Step 2: Use the Live Console to Monitor Scores and Handle Disputes

When you open the live console, two key features become available:

  • Dispute Button: This appears when one team enters a score the opposing team disputes.
  • Fill Empty Courts: This helps distribute matches evenly across available courts when starting your brackets.

Disputed matches will be listed in a separate dispute screen, which opens in a new tab. Here, you can filter disputes by event (only events with player score entry enabled appear). You can review, adjust scores, and save changes to resolve disputes. Once saved, the dispute disappears from the list, indicating it’s resolved.

Note that new disputes do not auto-refresh, so you will need to manually refresh the page to see the latest disputes. The console also shows completed games within the confirmation window (typically 1 to 5 minutes) waiting to be confirmed or disputed.

Step 3: Distribute Matches Evenly with Fill Empty Courts

At the start of the day or when initiating your brackets, you may want to distribute your matches evenly across all available courts. The Fill Empty Courts button on the live console will automatically assign matches from the running queue to open courts.

If you have dedicated courts for specific brackets or rounds (for example, pro brackets or round robin groups), the system respects those assignments and only places matches on the designated courts.

Step 4: Assign Next-Up Matches and Manage Court Scheduling

You can assign a match as "Next Up" on a specific court to prioritize its scheduling. For instance, if a match is currently underway on Court 1 and you want the next match to be a specific one, assign it as next up on Court 1. The system will schedule that match immediately after the current one finishes.

This flexibility allows you to slide matches into the queue as needed, ensuring your schedule stays organized and efficient.

Step 5: Enter Scores Manually When Needed

If players cannot enter scores—due to phone issues, lack of service, or other problems—you can manually enter scores from the score table as usual. Once you enter a score manually, the system will automatically assign the next match to that court and confirm the scores immediately.

Step 6: Understanding Printing and Score Sheets

When matches are assigned and players enter scores themselves, all matches are automatically marked as printed. This means you won’t receive physical printouts of score sheets for those matches, as the system assumes players have their assignments digitally.

If you encounter issues or prefer to revert to traditional score sheets, you can disable the player score entry feature in the event settings. Then, in the running queue, mark matches as not printed. This will generate printouts for all unassigned matches as usual.

Step 7: Customize Court Assignments by Bracket or Group

The system allows you to specify which courts certain brackets or groups play on. For example, you might exclude pro courts from other events or designate round robin matches only to courts 7, 8, and 9. When auto-assigning matches, the system will honor these court restrictions, ensuring that matches are placed appropriately.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. If you use this feature, must all matches use it in a tournament?

No, you can selectively enable the player score entry feature for an event. However, within that event, all matches will use the feature once enabled. You can disable it anytime if you prefer to revert to manual score entry for certain matches or events.

2. Do you have no score sheets when using this feature?

Correct. When player score entry is enabled, matches are automatically marked as printed to prevent unnecessary score sheet printouts. This assumes players receive their match assignments digitally. If needed, you can disable the feature and mark matches as not printed to generate physical score sheets again.

3. What if a match is refereed, like a medal match?

Refereed matches can still use the player score entry system, but if you prefer manual control, you can enter scores manually from the score table. This allows referees or officials to input scores directly and ensure accuracy.

4. How are new matches assigned to courts and players notified?

When a match finishes and its score is confirmed—either by player entry or manual input—the system automatically assigns the next match to that court. Players receive their assignments digitally, ensuring they know where and when to play next without needing physical printouts.

Summary

Enabling player-entered scores streamlines tournament management by reducing manual score entry and automating match assignments. The live console gives you powerful tools to monitor disputes, manage court assignments, and adjust schedules on the fly. Whether you’re running a small local event or a large tournament, this system helps keep everything running smoothly and efficiently.
