Running a tournament smoothly requires effective management tools, and the live console is an essential resource for setting up your tournament day and managing matches efficiently. Whether you are a seasoned tournament director or new to organizing events, understanding live console options can significantly enhance your workflow and improve the player experience. In this article, we will explore the various features of the live console, from verifying events to swapping players, adjusting match formats, and handling last-minute changes. This detailed guide will equip you with everything you need to confidently navigate the live console and ensure your tournament runs without a hitch.

Getting Started: Verifying Events and Navigating the Waiting Section

Before diving into the live console features, it’s crucial to verify your events. Verification confirms that all participants are properly registered and that the event details are accurate. Once your events have been verified, they will appear in the waiting section of the live console. This section acts as a staging area where you can review all upcoming matches before starting them.

From the waiting section, you can easily access the event brackets by clicking on the event title. This view allows you to see the entire tournament structure, including pools if your bracket is divided into multiple groups. For example, if your bracket has two pools, you can toggle between them by clicking on “pool details” and using the back button to switch views. This functionality helps you keep track of matchups and player progress in a clear, organized manner.

Printing Scorecards: Preparing for Match Day

One of the practical features of the live console is the ability to print scorecards. Scorecards are essential for referees and players to record match results and keep the tournament running smoothly. Depending on your settings, you can print scorecards for just the first matches or for all matches in the bracket.

To print scorecards, click on the print icon within the live console and select your preferred print settings. Having physical scorecards ready ahead of time helps reduce delays and confusion during match play, especially when managing multiple courts or large player pools.

Starting Matches: Initiating the Tournament Action

When you are ready to move from preparation to action, the live console makes starting matches straightforward. Next to the event name, click on the options menu and select start matches. If your tournament has texting enabled, you will see the option to start matches with or without sending a text message to players.

Using the texting feature is highly recommended because it keeps players informed about match start times, reducing no-shows and confusion. In training or practice environments, this option may be disabled, but for live tournaments, activating player notifications enhances communication significantly.

Once the matches are started, the event automatically moves to the running section of the console, where you can manage ongoing matches and monitor progress in real time.

Managing Matches and Players: Swapping, Removing, and Adding Teams

Tournament days rarely go exactly as planned, and the live console offers flexible options to handle last-minute changes efficiently.

Swapping Players

If a player cannot continue or needs to be replaced, the console allows you to swap players quickly. First, select the player who is no longer playing. Then, type the replacement player’s last name into the search box — note that the search works by last name only. After selecting the correct player, click swap, and the system will automatically update the bracket.

The new player's account will show a balance due if applicable, which they can pay online through their account on pickleball.com. Alternatively, if your tournament allows free substitutions, you can manually mark the player as paid to bypass this step.

Removing Teams

Sometimes a team may need to drop out last minute. The live console makes this process simple. Click on options next to the event, then select remove team. You will see a red trash can icon next to each team — click it to remove the team that is no longer playing.

After removing a team, be sure to click save to confirm the change. Because removing a team alters the tournament structure, you will need to reverify the event. This step ensures that the seatings and matchups are updated accurately to reflect the change.

Adding Teams Last Minute

If you have a team to add after verification is complete, you must first unverify the event. This is done by clicking the start over unverify button, which resets the verification process and brings you back to the first page.

From there, navigate to the attendee screen and manually add the new players to the event. Once done, reverify the event to finalize the changes and update the bracket accordingly.

Adjusting Score Formats and Settings on the Fly

Sometimes, conditions on tournament day require a change in the format or scoring system. Maybe the weather causes delays, or you realize the original format was not ideal for your schedule. The live console allows you to modify score formats and settings even after the tournament has started.

For example, if you initially set up a round-robin but now want to add a single-elimination playoff due to time constraints, you can make these adjustments directly in the console. After selecting your new format, click save and continue to apply the changes. This flexibility helps you adapt quickly and keep the tournament moving forward without confusion.

Additional Features: Communication and Verification Tools

Beyond starting matches and managing players, the live console offers several other useful options:

  • Texting Players: If enabled, you can send messages directly to players from the options menu, keeping them informed about match statuses and schedule changes.

  • Marking Events as Not Printed: If you encounter issues with score sheets or printed materials, you can mark an event as not printed to troubleshoot and reprint as needed.

  • Reviewing Verification Summaries: This feature helps you double-check participant information and event details to ensure everything is accurate before matches begin.
